Kettering has this week played host to the Women’s GB volleyball team for a two-day training camp.
The players arrived in Kettering earlier this week to train at the National Volleyball Centre based at Kettering Conference Centre to make use of the courts in the sports arena, the gym and pool at Balance Health Club and KCC meeting rooms all based at the venue.
GB Volleyball Olympian Maria Bertelli said: “We met the local Kettering Volleyball Club while we have been here which was great.
“We hope that the Olympics has raised the profile of volleyball in the UK and we can only see the sport going from strength to strength.”
She added: “This venue is ideal for us.
“Not only is it centrally located and easy to get to but we can meet, eat, sleep and play all under the one roof.”
Christine Murphy, marketing director for the venue, said: “We are proud to be the home of volleyball in England and look forward to the people of Kettering and Northamptonshire using the fantastic sports facilities here even more now they have been inspired by the Olympics.
“As well as the arena, our new beach volleyball courts have created a lot interest with local people playing for fun and talking about setting up their own friendly leagues and tournaments.”
