NEARLY 250 couples in Corby and East Northamptonshire could lose out on tax credits, the parliamentary candidate for the area has said.
Andy Sawford says 245 couples in part-time work, who have children, could lose around £4,000 a year from this April, following changes made by the Government.
Mr Sawford said more than a dozen families had raised the issue with him.
The change means that couples with children, earning less than around £17,700 will need to increase the number of hours they work from a minimum of 16 to 24 hours per week or they will lose £3,870 per year.
Mr Sawford said: “In this economic climate, very few people in part-time work will be able to increase their hours by up to 50 per cent. For a couple with children losing around £4,000 a year, they might not think working is worthwhile.”
