Talented singer Lauren Alexandra Jones won the first ever Wellingborough’s Got Talent with a performance of Les Miserables classic ‘I Dreamed a Dreamed’.

The 14-year-old wowed the packed auditorium and expert judges at The Castle theatre in Wellingborough last week.

Her version of the song, described as ‘breathtaking’, won her the top prize of a day recording at Beck Studios.

Second place went to 18-year-old Samantha O’Neil, and third place was taken by 15-year-old Amy Addison.

Thirteen youngsters took to stage on Thursday night in the competition to celebrate talented youngsters from across the borough.

The acts were judged by Dave Smith, owner of Beck Studios, as well as musician John Bowman and acclaimed singer/songwriter Martyna Wren, before audience votes decided the winner.

The competition was the idea of Wellingborough mayor, Cllr Graham Lawman, and all profits from the night were donated to the Mayor’s charity fund.

Cllr Lawman said: “I have seen so much talent as I’ve visited various groups and attended events throughout the past year.

“I wanted us to have a showcase for these youngsters and a chance for them to experience a big stage.

“It was a wonderful night, that really demonstrated the talent of our young people.

“Any one of the acts could have won, but congratulations to Lauren who overcame a technical hitch with poise to enrapture the whole audience with her version of ‘I Dreamed a Dream.’

“I am sure she will be a star one day soon.

“There were a wide range of acts and songs, and none of the performers took the easy route, really testing themselves and not showing any nerves.

“Thanks to all who supported the event, making a superb atmosphere in the auditorium, as well as all the staff at The Castle and judges who made it happen.

“I was delighted to be associated with the whole evening.”

Lauren said: “I have had the most wonderful evening.

“I just love singing and performing on stage, it’s where I feel most at home.

“Thank you to The Castle for giving me this opportunity and congratulations to all the other brilliant performers who contributed to such a great show.”
