A mother-of-two from Burton Latimer has lost three-and-a-half stone after joining a slimming club just before her 40th birthday.
Sarah Jane Roberts, 42, has dropped from a size 16 dress size to a size 10, and now weighs 9st 12lb, a significant drop from her former weight of 13st 4lb.
Mrs Roberts started to put on weight after the first of her two sons was born, 13 years ago. Having a caesarean left Mrs Roberts unable to exercise and when her second son was born almost two years later, she was carrying the weight of two pregnancies.
Mrs Roberts said: “I knew I was getting bigger and was depressed but the lower I got, the more I ate.”
She was eventually diagnosed with delayed post natal depression in 2003.
Seeking solace in food and red wine, Mrs Roberts said: “I didn’t like how I looked and I had no energy. I was getting bigger year by year but it was not until a month before my 40th birthday that I decided to do something about it. I didn’t want to be fat in my forties.”
A month before her 40th birthday, in September 2010, Mrs Roberts joined her local Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Club with a friend, and within five weeks had lost her first stone.
As her confidence increased, Mrs Roberts began exercising at home as well as at the Rosemary Conley classes, and has taken up running. She now runs two miles three times a week.
Mrs Roberts’ weight loss has had a positive effect on her whole family. Her husband, who eats the same healthy meals as Mrs Roberts and has also taken up running with her, has also lost weight. The couple’s two sons also exercise with them, making the runs a great family activity.
Mrs Roberts is now featured in the July/August issue of Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness magazine, on sale from Thursday, July 4.
