SUPER-FAST broadband is now available to the first homes and businesses in Corby, BT has announced.
About 15,000 householders and firms in Corby are poised to get the high-speed line as engineers complete upgrades in the coming weeks.
The development will take the number of premises in Northamptonshire with access to the high-speed technology to about 88,000.
BT has also announced plans for its fibre-optic network to pass another 82,000 premises in the county later this year.
The communications company’s local network business, Openreach, expects to make super-fast broadband available to about two-thirds of UK homes and businesses by the end of 2014.
Cllr Andre Gonzalez De Savage, Northamptonshire County Council’s cabinet member for infrastructure, said: “This is great news. We have been working very closely with BT to make this a reality and it’s a significant step forward in bringing increased connectivity to the county.”
