A group of slimmers are celebrating losing 2,889 stone in a year – an average of more than 4.5 stone each.
Every one of the 625 members of the 12 Slimming World groups in the Wellingborough and Rushden area has helped contribute to the total weight loss during the past year.
Amie Craddock, who runs several groups in Wellingborough and Rushden, said: “It’s amazing, I am so proud of them.”
Sessions teach members about healthy eating but also provide a support network where they can share each others’ stories of weight loss as well as gain.
Carol Dean attends the Wellingborough morning group and has lost nearly three stone.
She said her life had reached a point where she needed to do something about it.
She joined and said: “I lost about a stone and then realised it was something I could actually do.”
Charlie Gamble from the Rushden morning group has lost five stone and said: “It’s not just about how you look. I joined and it gave me so much confidence.”
The groups’ success has been further boosted by an award for Amie, who has been given silver status by the Slimming World organisation for helping slimmers reach their target weight, improving their health and changing their lives.
Amie said: “I am delighted to have received the silver award for the Rushden group.
“I feel passionately about helping people to transform their lives by losing weight in the same way that I did when I lost six stone with Slimming World.”
But she added: “This award belongs to the Rushden group’s 130 members.
“They’re the ones who make our group the success that it is, with their fabulous commitment, the wonderful support they give each other each week, and obviously, their impressive weight losses while following Slimming World’s food optimising eating plan.”
Slimming World has groups in Wellingborough, Rushden, Finedon, Raunds, Bozeat and Irthlingborough and is open to men and women of all ages.
