A BIG budget campaign to advise vulnerable people on keeping warm in cold weather has reached more than 450 people.
Wrapped Up, a joint initiative between NHS Northamptonshire, Age UK, Serve, Northamptonshire Community Foundation and Nene Commissioning, held 20 outreach events across the county with £250,000 of Government funding.
Events were held at libraries, community and shopping centres and people were given information about the support available for vulnerable people.
The county has 48,000 people aged 75 or over and 632 people who are homeless or sleeping rough.
About 13 per cent of households are elderly people living on their own, with 11.5 per cent of households living in fuel poverty.
Age UK Northamptonshire’s chief officer Liam Condron said: “Cold weather and fuel poverty can cause misery, avoidable illness and even death for too many older people, leading to distress and adding to the workload of healthcare providers.”
