A supermarket’s new community life champion is looking for ways she can help people.

Asda in Rushden is launching its community life champion scheme at 10am on Monday but Gill Hallam who has taken on the role is already hard at work.

The store is offering part of its building as a meeting space for groups, will be encouraging shoppers to put forward good causes for donations and Mrs Hallam will be offering her time to help organisations.

Mrs Hallam, who is running the scheme with store manager Fred Wing, said: “I feel very excited about the role – it’s a bit like being the face of Asda. This scheme will be good for the community and Asda.”

The first three charities up for funding are Homeless Bob, Hope Methodist Church and Zac’s Fight Appeal.
