More than 100 people took advantage of the chance to have a free health check while doing their shopping.
A special event was put on at the Swansgate Shopping Centre in Wellingborough last week by Wellingborough Council and NHS Northamptonshire to offer shoppers free health tests and screenings.
A council spokesman said: “The aim of the event was to help people who were unable, or in many cases unaware of the need, to visit their GPs and to catch potentially life-threatening conditions early on.
“We had people saying they wouldn’t have thought to go to their GP about a number of health issues so it was really good that they had the chance to get checked out, and a number of people said they were unaware of early cancer symptoms so they learned the signs to look out for. It was also really useful that people could talk about their lifestyles and get advice on simple changes they could make to help them live healthier lives.”
During the roadshow people were invited to have a variety of checks on their height, weight and body mass index, blood pressure and testing for diabetes. There was also advice on offer about healthy lifestyle programmes, stopping smoking, early cancer awareness and alcohol.
