Councillor Steven North has been re-elected as Leader of East Northamptonshire Council and has predicted a ‘very big year’ for the council.
Cllr North, who represents the Rushden Sartoris ward, is the leader of the ruling Conservative group and will be supported in his role by the re-elected deputy leader, Cllr Glenn Harwood MBE.
Following his appointment, Cllr North said: “This will be a very big year for the council. By the end of the year we hope to have a positive outcome on Rushden Lakes and will have improved our leisure facilities.
“We will also help communities with their local plans and other projects through the New Homes Bonus, support residents in recycling even more, and continue to work towards better housing and planning policies.
“It’s always a big ask to do more and more with fewer resources, but we were right to freeze Council Tax this year and thanks go to members and officers for their hard work.”
Cllr North was re-elected as leader of the council following the annual meeting on Wednesday May 15.
