A new group is being launched for people interested in astronomy.
Stanion Stargazers will hold its first meeting in the village on September 6 and anyone who would like to know more is welcome to go along.
The meeting will include an introduction to the group, a short slideshow and a feature-length video.
There will also be an open forum to discuss the film.
The meeting is being held at Stanion Village Hall, in Old Brigstock Road, from 8pm until 11pm.
Organiser of Stanion Stargazers Tony Segal said: “The goal of the club is to further the education of its members and the public in astronomy and related sciences by offering meetings, information, public star parties, advice and possible school and community events to all who are interested in astronomy.”
The club is planning a beginners’ clinic and field trips, as well as sessions on the constellations, astrophotography, binocular astronomy and deep-sky observations.
It is also planning to hold an annual astrophotography competition and to invite guest speakers to the group’s meetings.
There will be no admission charge to the first meeting of Stanion Stargazers and children are welcome to attend as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
Weather permitting, guests will be able to view the skies above Stanion using telescopes provided.
There will be a licensed bar serving refreshments during the intermission.
