A special church service is being held to collect aid for the Syrian refugees.

The chairman of East Northamptonshire Council, Cllr Marika Hillson, and Fr John Hall are holding a church service to raise aid for the Syrian refugees at St Peter’s Church, Irthlingborough, at 3pm on October 25.

Cllr Hillson is working with a charity that will take the aid to the Syrian refugee camps and into Syria itself.

She said: “Our communities look to us to lead them in acts of compassion and this service is an opportunity for everyone to join together to help these desperate people, especially as winter is on its way.

“Several churches, schools and other organisations have already shown support of the special service to raise aid.”

The following items are urgently needed and will be collected at the church service on October 25, including nappies, adult diapers, sanitary towels, new winter clothing, socks, thermals and gloves, boots, blankets, duvets and money.

The service is open to everyone who wishes to donate.
