A Wellingborough woman’s face lit up when her boyfriend proposed to her – during a fireworks display.

Jo said: “I was really shocked. I did not expect it at all.

“I love Bonfire Night, it is my favourite time of the year so I think he decided to do it then as he knows I love it.”

David said he had been planning his proposal for a while but was just waiting for the right opportunity.

He said: “I just thought doing it on fireworks night would be a great way to remember it.

“They had a count down from one to 10 and I got down on one knee at the ‘one’. Unfortunately, they had to do it again as they said it wasn’t loud enough so I had to quickly get up then get down on one knee again.”

The couple met during a shopping trip to Iceland supermarket and have three children together – Holly, eight, Connor, five, and Maisy, two.

They are planning to get married in early 2016.

Ms Rudd said they were planing to return to the fireworks display in Northampton next year.
