A housing complex for elderly people has had a makeover.
Swan Gardens Extra Care scheme in School Place, off Gainsborough Road, Corby, has been refurbished by its landlord, Hanover Housing - a leading national provider of housing for older people.
Swan Gardens was built in 1998 through a partnership with Hanover, Corby Council and Northamptonshire County Council and is Corby’s only Extra Care scheme for frail, elderly clients offering the independence of a self-contained flat which is rented from Hanover. Care and support is provided to tenants in their own flat on an individual tailor–made basis.
The refurbishment works included new furniture, full redecoration and new floor finishes throughout the communal areas. The dining room and hairdressing suite were given a complete makeover, the shop was refitted and a new assisted bath was fitted, and the bathroom redecorated to give it more of a ‘spa’ experience feel.
The size and layout of the communal lounges, which include a bistro area and a tea bar, were also increased. Hanover and the residents of Swan Gardens now want to develop the new scheme as a resource and community hub for the local area so that other services, groups and older people living in the community can benefit from the range of facilities and services on offer.
Hanover is in discussion with Age UK and the WRVS regarding possible projects that will be of benefit to residents and the wider community, and would like to see the facilities being used as widely as possible.
