Slideshow: Corby’s Kids of Steel swim, cycle and run

More than 1,000 Corby youngsters showed they are made of tough stuff when they took part in Tata annual Kids of Steel event.

The children, aged eight to 11, completed a 40-metre swim at the town’s pool, cycled a kilometre along Westcott Way, which was closed to traffic for the day, before making a 500-metre dash to the finishing line.

Volunteers were on hand to help youngsters on the course and give them encouragement.

Every child who took part received a medal and a goody bag containing a swimming cap, T-shirt, wristband and snacks provided by Weetabix and Lakelands Hospice.

The event on Tuesday (September 10) was the seventh held in the town and one of 12 taking place around the UK this year, involving 10,000 children.
