A TOWN’S marketplace will used for a celebration of dance in the summer, with a week-long spectacle in the pipeline.
Kettering Council and the town’s Starlight Dance have joined forces to host the Kettering Big Dance week in the Market Place in July featuring performances from local groups, choirs, zumba, workshops and a chance for shoppers show their moves.
The week of dance will be a precursor to the summer celebrations at the Market Place, as the town’s flagship Kettering by the Sea makes a return for four weeks.
Starlight Dance will be performing every day at the festival and principal Jacc Batch said: “It’s a real honour to be asked to perform.
“All of the group are really looking forward to it and it’s important to support community events in the town centre.
“If it increases footfall that would be brilliant, and it will be a celebration of dance in the community.
“We’re hoping to get the public involved in doing various routines throughout the week.”
The group has already made plans to get local schools involved in performances during the week, which runs from July 7 to July 14.
The following week Kettering by the Sea returns, and fun-filled activities this year include a beach volleyball tournament, live music, theatre and a helter skelter.
Kettering by the Sea will run from July 21 to August 18.
The dance event is part of a national initiative with similar spectacles celebrating dance throughout the country in July.
Organisers are hoping schools and groups get involved to help the festivities go with a bang.
Shaun Birdsall from Kettering Council said: “We’re also inviting any schools and dance groups who would like to take part in the week, maybe by doing a rehearsal or performance at their school or in their neighbourhood, to get in touch.”
