Selfless carers and those who have faced life’s tragedies are to be honoured at an awards night next month.
The first Shining Stars of Northants celebration is being held on Saturday, May 17, at The Ritz in Desborough, starting at 6.45pm.
Scores of people have been nominated for the awards which were launched by Katrina Baker, of Selsey Road, Corby, to recognise the strength of those who have had to struggle with difficulties and to pay tribute to the people who have helped them.
Katrina’s daughter Macy died aged 22 months in March 2008 from a rare condition which meant she was unable to see or hear and had chronic lung and heart problems.
Following the death of her child, Katrina founded Macy’s Memory, a charity which supports other families with terminally ill children.
She said: “I wanted to raise awareness of and pay tribute to the people who work behind the scenes to help others.
“Macy was the real inspiration for the awards night and they are being held on what would have been her eighth birthday.
“I would like to thank The Ritz for hosting the event and all the sponsors.”
Award categories are inspirational daughter, young fundraiser, individual overcoming adversity, most supportive sibling, young carer and fundraiser of the year.
There are also awards for inspirational mother, inspirational son, organisation/business or group with star quality, most supportive grandparent, most supportive friend and the individual living with special needs.
Sponsoring the awards night are DJ Wayne, who is providing the music free of charge, and Betty Bakez.
Among the award sponsors are Lawsons of Corby, Rainbow Memorials, Louise Slaven Dance, Corby Flowers, Carodance, Vbites Food, Bryans Motors, Balloontastic by Claire, Forces Future Charitable Trust, Northants Digital Solutions, Del Berwick Cambridge consultant, Crown Pals and Angelo Jacks charity.
