Traffic came to a complete standstill on the A14 near Kettering after an accident.
The westbound carriageway between Junction 8 and Junction 7 at Kettering was closed this morning and emergency services were called to the scene.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash, and it is believed one person had to be cut free from their vehicle.
The accident, which the Highways Agency described as ‘a serious multi-vehicle accident,’ led to congestion back to Junction 9.
There were also problems on the A14 near Thrapston after another accident earlier on.
One lane of the A14 eastbound at Thrapston was closed and caused congestion back to the junction with the A6.
A police spokesman said both incidents were cleared by midday.
