A man who has two dozen different aliases has been jailed for 13 months for shoplifting from three Wellingborough businesses.

Cornell Mason, 36, who has been convicted of 44 previous offences related to theft and similar matters, carried out the offences in March and April this year.

This week he was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court for stealing a number of vests from Peacocks, food from the Co-op and toiletries from the One Stop Store.

Maxine Krone, in mitigation, said Mason was trying to turn his life around.

But Judge Rupert Mayo handed him a four-month sentence for each of the thefts, to run concurrently. A nine-month suspended sentence for a separate offence was also activated. Mason will serve half the sentence in custody before released on licence.
