GARDENERS’ valuables will be safe after a logisitcs company donated a 40ft security container worth more than £1,000 to allotments targeted by thieves and vandals.

Great Bear Distribution Ltd donated the huge container to Rothwell Allotment Association after sheds were broken into, greenhouses smashed and a van torched.

Association chairman Emma Ainscough, 39, who is also a senior manager at the distribution company’s site in Desborough, said: “We’ve had sheds broken into, greenhouses smashed and a van burned out. But this is a vandal-proof security storage unit.”

The container, which Great Bear also delivered and installed in the centre of the allotments off Kettering Road, would have cost £750 second-hand and each of its two drop-lock keys is worth £250.

Mrs Ainscough said: “The only way you could break in is with a welder.”

The association hopes a school will paint the container and has approached Montsaye Community College.
