The Scots Guards pipe band will be competing in the piping and drumming competition at this year’s Highland Gathering.

The event takes place on Sunday, July 13, at the Charter Field in Corby Old Village.

One of the organisers, Cllr Mark Pengelly, said: “This is a brilliant addition to this year’s show and we hope people will come along and support them. We also have entries for the pipe band competition from ,RAF Waddington, Scunthorpe and District, Birmingham Irish, Wolverhampton , East of England, University of Bedford and Standard Triumph and, of course, Corby’s own Grampian Pipe band.

“We have 16 performances in place already and are expecting some more entries.

“The solo competition is also taking shape and we have one entry all the way from Hong Kong.”

One of the highlights of the gathering is the massed bands parade which ends the event.

The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association organises the pipe band competition, which costs almost £5,000 to stage, and people and companies are invited to sponsor the event.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the pipe band competition is asked to contact Cllr Pengelly on 07760434896.
