A school’s home-grown crops now have a number of watchful eyes looking out for them.

Year 3 pupils at Oakley Vale Primary School in Corby have been creating scarecrows to display at the school’s allotment.

Teaching assistant Mandy Street said: “For their Easter homework project the Year 3 children had to make a scarecrow which met the specific criteria given by the teachers.

“It had to be made out of recycled material, it had to be waterproof and it had to have bird-scaring features.

“The topic for the term is ‘from field to fork’, and the children will be growing their own crops and having a garden cafe.

“It takes in all of the curriculum and the children are really enjoying it.”
