Splash Pool in Rushden is set to re-open its doors next week following a £330k refurbishment of the pool and changing areas.
The project, funded by East Northamptonshire Council, has seen new air handling units and ducting installed, re-tiling in the changing rooms, showers and toilets and the installation of new changing cubicles and lockers.
Having replaced pool filters and other mechanical items, the pool has been deep cleaned and re-filled ready for the re-opening onn Monday, September 22.
Cllr Steven North, leader of East Northamptonshire Council, said: “As well as refurbishing the changing areas and lockers, Splash has had significant work done to the mechanical parts of the swimming pool.
“The replacement of air handling units and ducts was a major part of the project and, whilst the pool itself won’t look that different, it will work more efficiently which means a more secure future for the centre.
“Unfortunately, the flume hasn’t been refurbished due to high repair costs.
“It’s a specialist item and the cost of repair was beyond budget. As a bid for external funding was unsuccessful, other options are now being looked at to see if there’s anything else that can be done.
“I’d like to thank members and users of Splash Pool for their understanding and patience while these vital refurbishments have taken place and look forward to seeing this much-loved facility being used again.”
Peter Williams, chief executive of Aspirations Wellbeing who manage the facility and have made a financial contribution to the project, added: “The centre is looking great with Aspirations Wellbeing staff helping to provide a cleaner fresher look to the reception and poolside areas.
“We also now have better heating and ventilation in the pool area which will provide a much better swimming experience.”
The new Splash swimming timetable is available at www.aspirationswellbeing.org.uk as well as from Splash and the Pemberton Centre.
