A champion dog groomer from Rushden is appearing on television tonight (Monday, December 30).
Su Eld-Weaver stars in Doggy Styling, which is on Channel 4 at 9pm.
The programme charts the fiercely competitive world of extreme dog grooming, which is a multi-million-dollar industry in America, and follows Su as she takes on the top dog stylists in the world in a prestigious competition in the States.
Su Eld-Weaver cut, coloured and groomed her poodle Dobby to represent the book and film Memoirs of a Geisha, hoping to impress the judges at the Creative Grooming Competition held in Pennsylvania, and go one better than last year when she came second.
Su was given two-and-a-half hours to transform Dobby.
Her design included geishas, carp and a Japanese crane.
She said: “I get my inspiration from everyday things.
“I love the film Memoirs of a Geisha and started wondering if I could recreate it.
“Dobby loves the attention, you can’t get her off the table.”
Talking about her colourful designs, Su said: “It’s a bit of harmless fun.
“The dogs get lots of pampering and admiring comments when they go out.
“Dobby is allowed to act like a normal dog, she goes out in the rain and rolls in the mud.
“The dogs’ welfare is paramount.”
