A Rushden couple have raised almost £3,500 for a cancer charity.
Ray and Marylyn Wood organised and hosted a charity dinner auction at Pizzeria Venezia Italian Restaurant on September 22 and raised £2,486 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Restaurant manger, Cesare Marinaro kindly donated all proceeds from the dinner to the charity.
The remainder of their fundraising total was raised through giving local talks and opening their garden to the public.
Mr Wood said: “Through this auction we were able to involve many people around the country by using the internet to spread the word.
“The auction itself was a wonderful event, great food supplied by Venezia with fun and excitement at the sale.
“We know the money raised will be used locally to help people in their time of need which makes these events so worthwhile.”
He added: “For us fund raising for Marie Curie Cancer Care is an important part of our lives as they have helped our own parents as well as many other families of friends. They are the quiet, unseen support that is so vital and we wanted to raise their profile in people’s minds.”
Marylyn and Ray’s fundraising will pay for over 170 hours of free nursing service, allowing someone with a terminal illness to be cared for in the comfort of their own home.
