He started driving at the age of seven in a 85cc kart, then climbed into the 250cc methanol-burning dragster at the age of eight with acceleration that will out run most high-performance cars.

The Whitefriars Junior School pupil will be driving for the Santa Pod-based CBM Motorsport race team and will be competing all over the UK as well as at the 30th Nitrolympix at the famous German Hockenheim circuit in August.

Team owner Chris Barnes said: “We are very pleased to have Dylan driving for us this season and so far the results have shown what great potential he has.

“He is driving against some of the best kids in the UK and so far is showing them he just isn’t the new kid on the block.

“He regularly beats kids with 10 years’ experience on him.

“At the end of 2014 we secured Dylan sponsorship from Higham-based RS Repairs, who have given us a stunning custom airbrushed body for the car and the team uniform.”

Dylan’s teacher Shona Adams said: “At Whitefriars Junior School we are extremely proud of Dylan and all that he has achieved at such a young age in an unusual sport.

“Everyone in school enjoyed watching a video of Dylan’s race from Santa Pod and him starting his car in the playground!
