RUNNERS are gearing up to pound the streets for this year’s Stanwick Road Race.
The 12th annual 10k race and a 2k fun run for under-15s will be taking place in the village on Easter Monday.
Les Marchant, chairman of Stanwick Races Group, said hundreds of runners are expected at this year’s event.
He said: “Most of the people that run keep coming back and we very often get emails from them afterwards saying how much they enjoy it.”
Although online registration for the races has closed, some places may be available on the day on a first come first served basis.
Supporters are also welcome to come along.
Mr Marchant added: “We would like to see people come along. Competitors tend to bring their families and there will be some charity stalls in the village hall.”
The 10k race is due to start in High Street at 10.30am near Stanwick Club.
The route takes in Higham Road, the Rushden and Higham bypass and Kimbolton Road to Chelveston, before going on to Water Lane, Raunds Road and Chelveston Road and returning to Stanwick.
The 2k fun run will start from the same place about five minutes after the main race and winds its way around the village and back to the start area.
A road closure order will be in place for High Street and Higham Road, Stanwick, during the races.
All of the competitors who finish will receive a medal and trophies will be presented to the winners.
Almost 400 people took part in last year’s races with some participants travelling from across the country to run.
