Runners raise money for good causes

COUNTY runners have taken part in a half marathon to raise money for good causes.

Andy Prentice, of Little Oakley, and mother and daughter Julie and Claudette Danns, of Wellingborough, ran the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon earlier this month.

Mr Prentice, 28, was taking part in his first half marathon, having shed more than four stone and six inches off his waistline over the past 18 months.

His fundraising effort drummed up more than £2,000 for Parkinson’s UK.

He said: “As well as slimming down, my main motivation for the Silverstone challenge was to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, following the recent diagnosis of the disease in a close family member.

“I feel so proud to have been able to offer positive help and to have raised 100 per cent over my initial target.

“Now I have the running bug I will continue – after a short rest.”

Mrs Danns and 13-year-old Claudette, who has Type One Diabetes, raised more than £700.
