Two Corby women completed the Edinburgh marathon and raised £1,340 for Lakelands Hospice in the town.

Angela Tinto, who was supported by family friends and work colleagues at Mainline Media, raised £1,220 and finished the race in four hours and 17 minutes.

Her friend Karen Ewing completed the course in five hours and raised £120 with support from her family and friends at RS Components, in the town.

Lakelands’ community fundraising manager Paul Marlow said: “It was a fantastic effort by both ladies to finish in such good times.

“As always we are overwhelmed by the support and generosity of people like Angela and Karen.”

Lakelands Hospice provides care for patients’ with cancer-related illnesses and those affected by advanced heart failure.

The hospice is developing constantly to meet the needs and demands of the local community and since launching its Hospice at Home service needs to raise in excess of £475,000 a year to keep going.

Mr Marlow said: “We do not receive any government funding and rely on charitable donations and fundraising events. On behalf of patients, their carers and families who will benefit, I would like to thank everyone for their generosity to Lakelands.”
