A team of youngsters has played its first friendly rugby match with the help of Northampton Saints.
The Hitz Rugby Team and the Northampton Saints played their first match last night (Tuesday, July 2) after weeks of training.
The match is part of a project to encourage young people who come from challenging backgrounds to change their behaviour as well as improve their confidence, and aims to get them back into education, an apprenticeship or vocational training.
The project, for young people aged between 14 and 19 who are not in employment, education or training, has been taking place over the last few weeks at Lodge Park Sports Centre and West Glebe Park in Corby. Corby Council’s Lead Member for Community, Cllr John McGhee, said: “This is a great project that Corby Borough Council has been happy to support. It is important for all young people to be given opportunities to gain qualifications and strive to do the best they possibly can. Projects like this can create confidence in people and give that motivation some people may need to get themselves back on a positive track.”
