The county went cycling mad when the first stage of the Friends Life Women’s Tour was hosted in the county.

The cyclists passed through many parts of our area in May, including Oundle and Geddington, and thousands of spectators lined the route.

Meanwhile Corby Town FC honoured the memory of town soldier James Ashworth VC by re-naming the Castle End terrace in his memory.

There was major news announced in June when Communities Secretary Eric Pickles visited the Rushden Lakes site to announce that he was approving plans for a large retail park there, despite the protests of neighbouring authorities.

Meanwhile, the director of a Corby minibus firm vowed to carry on after arsonists destroyed his business offices in a blaze.
