The chain, which has more than 80 restaurants across the UK, has applied for a premises licence for a unit at Rushden Lakes.

It is applying for its opening hours to be from 10am to 12.30am seven days a week.

It is also applying to sell alcohol from 10am to midnight Monday to Sunday, for recorded music from 10am to 12.30am Monday to Sunday and to provide late night refreshment from 11pm to 12.30am Monday to Sunday.

The first Gourmet Burger Kitchen was launched in Battersea, South London, in 2001 and the company has gone on to open dozens more restaurants across the country, with the nearest branch to Northamptonshire being in Milton Keynes.

It offers various handcrafted burgers and says its burger sauces are made from scratch every day in each GBK kitchen.

The first phase of the Rushden Lakes development is due to open in July and will be followed by phase two of the scheme, which includes more shops, more restaurants and a 14-screen cinema.
