The county fell silent on Sunday as people paid their respects to all those who have fallen in war.
A wreath was also laid in Raunds by Margaret McColl and Richard Fox at the town’s war memorial on behalf of all the men and women who attend the Candocare Day Centre.
Arctic veteran Harold Mason, 89, attended the Burton Latimer service.
The Royal Navy 1st class stoker on HMS Zealous, which helped rescue 525 Norwegian men, women and children said: “I rescued as many as i could out of the Arctic waters and they all survived but some sailors died and many ships sank, but safely made it to Scotland.
“Many had to be hospitalised. This was only one convoy.
“I went on lots of different operations. I was awarded the Ushakov medal from the Russian embassy for bravery, heroism and courage and I was awarded the Arctic Star last year.”
Mayor Ruth Groome said: “It was deeply touching to see so many people turn out for such a momentous occassion.”
