Customers are being reassured that wedding bookings will be honoured at a hotel which is now under new management.

The Hind Hotel has been a landmark in Wellingborough for nearly 400 years, but it has been the subject of discussions by Wellingborough Council at recent meetings due to the condition of the building.

The council issued a statement on March 10, which said: “The council has been advised that the owners and current occupiers of The Hind Hotel are facing severe financial challenges.

“This is sad news, as we have been working with successive owners over several years to bring the listed building back to its former glory, being one of the key historical properties in the town centre.”

However, it appears that a new management team has taken over the running of the hotel since this statement was issued.

A message posted on the hotel’s Facebook page on Monday said: “As from Friday 17th March 2017, The Hind Hotel is being operated by Hind Wellingborough Ltd (HWL) replacing the previous operating company.

“Owing to the requirement for HWL to step in at barely one day’s notice in order to i) safeguard the jobs of the 30 loyal staff, and ii) to ensure that the doors of the hotel did not close on this historic building, the managers and director of HWL are only now able to start the process of establishing the precise situation left by the exiting company.

“We at the hotel are acutely aware of the anxiety this situation must surely be causing to our customers, and most particularly those who have future events and weddings booked with the hotel under the old operating company.

“Right now we are addressing these future events as a priority and will be in touch with all parties shortly - at the latest by the end of this week, Friday 24th March.

“Please understand we are not the cause of the situation, but will do everything within our power to bring matters to a satisfactory conclusion for all concerned.

“Your forebearance while we complete our assessment is much appreciated.

“In the meanwhile, the hotel doors are open and the liquor licence will be re-established today.

“We would like to thank all of those who have supported us making the wedding fayre and the carvery buffet at the weekend such successes.

“We hope for your patronage for many years to come.

“And would also like to remind you that our pool bar, Q Lounge, opens this evening.

“Pop in, rack ‘em up and enjoy a cold one.”

This was followed by another message posted yesterday (Tuesday), which said: “The new management of the hotel is delighted to announce that we will honour bookings (and deposits) for weddings made with the previous operating company.

“We understand that the uncertainty surrounding your special day will have been very worrying and we have taken this decision to ensure that this is one less item on your lengthy checklists.”

The Northants Telegraph has contacted Hind Wellingborough Ltd for a comment, but has yet to hear back from the company.
