Students at a Raunds college welcomed a member of the House of Lords last week as they learned more about Britain’s parliamentary system.

Baroness Byford DBE visited Manor School Sports College on Friday, November 23, to speak to year 12 and 13 pupils on a range of subjects as the school marked the final day of Parliament Week.

The week was a national initiative to build greater awareness of, and engagement with, parliamentary democracy in the UK, and the college was one of 40 schools from across the country chosen to encourage students to engage with politics and the parliamentary process.

Baroness Byford talked about the work and role of the House of Lords, issues she has been involved with personally, which bills she has discussed and who she has worked with – including former prime ministers Lady Thatcher and John Major.
