Kettering-based radio station Connect FM is joining a new DAB digital radio transmitter which is being launched at the Northampton Saints rugby ground tomorrow morning (Thursday).

The launch means that Connect, which currently reaches Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and Rushden, will be able to transmit to 675,000 people across the county.

Mark Jeeves, managing director of Connect FM, said he was excited about the launch – especially as he was based at radio station Planet Rock in 1999 when it was one of the first commercial digital radio stations.

He added: “It’s been a bit of a dream for 12 years to bring digital radio to Kettering.

“Planet Rock was the first commercial digital station to launch which is still in existence, there were a few others which launched at the same time but they have disappeared.

“Although we will be able to broadcast across the county, we are still keen to keep things local so things like the news broadcasts might be slightly different on the digital and regular transmissions.”

Connect FM’s breakfast show tomorrow morning is being broadcast from the Saints ground.
