T-shirts designed by pupils which bear a design aimed at cutting town centre violence are to be given to new students next month.
Students arriving in the county for freshers’ week at the University of Northampton next month will be given T-shirts designed by a team of pupils from Weavers School in Wellingborough. The Weavers team won the Schools County Challenge in July.
For the contest the teams each came up with a project to promote the message that just one punch can be fatal.
It was held as part of the One Punch One Life campaign, which is being backed by the family of Stuart Martin, 28, who died after he was hit in the back of the head outside Bar Life nightclub in Wellingborough in 2010.
Northamptonshire Police’s assistant chief constable Andy Frost said: “With some violence reduction money we have got we are going to buy some T-shirts from the school.
“We are going to have the pupils handing them out so the young people arriving in Northamptonshire think about their behaviour. The message is you may become a victim and, when you have had a lot to drink, don’t become an offender.”
Police are to take to the streets of Kettering at night over the August bank holiday weekend to spread the message. The campaign will also be promoted through radio adverts, mobile ad-vans, adverts at ATMs and social media.
