A student is heading for stardom after winning a place in the West End finals of an online talent contest.

Felipe Bejarano, 18, a sixth former at Brooke Weston Academy, Corby, has been chosen from hundreds of hopefuls to be one of the five young men and five women in the finals at London’s Lyric Theatre on Monday, July 9.

The competition, launched by anonymous Twitter user @westendproducer, attracted hundreds of entries nationwide, which were whittled down to just 20 male and 20 female contenders.

Videos of their performances, including Felipe’s rendition of The Weather by Nick Blaemire, went online and people were asked to vote for their favourite.

On Wednesday night Felipe heard he had won a place in the finals to be held in front of a panel of industry professionals, including musical theatre star Louise Dearman, musical director Mike Dixon, agent Gemma Lowy Hamilton and casting director Anne Vosser.

Felipe said: “I entered the competition back in January and didn’t think any more of it until the organisers emailed me two days ago saying I was a quarter finalist.

“I am delighted I have made the final cut and been given one of the five places in the male category to attend the West End and perform at the the Lyric Theatre.”
