A list of possible sites has been drawn up as part of the bid for an enterprise zone in Corby.
Enterprise zones are aimed at boosting the economy and employment opportunities in an area, and more details have been revealed about the joint bid due to be submitted by Corby Council, East Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership (NEP) this week.
Members of Corby Council’s One Corby Policy committee met last week to discuss a report containing potential sites to be included in the zone.
Numerous sites have been put forward at this stage, although the numbers may be reduced at a later date if the bid is successful.
The proposed sites include Manton Park/Cockerell Road, Priors Hall/CEC, TATA main site, MPB (former TATA) land, land north of Roquette, land north of Morrisons, Gateway West, Centrix Park, Corby Railway Station, Genner Park, Corby Council/car storage site, Westport car parks, TATA land at Rockingham, Stanion Lane, GEFCO and Weldon Park.
The potential sites are all located around Rockingham Speedway, and each has been given a likely use of either manufacturing, offices or logistics.
One of the benefits of an enterprise zone is a business rate discount for occupiers of premises for five years.
Costs associated with the bid will be mainly incurred by NEP, although both Corby and East Northants councils may need to put up to £5,000 to support the bid.
The report discussed by councillors last week stated: “It is considered that the sites identified represent the best mix of elements for an enterprise zone in Corby.”
Members went with the recommendation of approving the sites, which will now be put forward for inclusion in the bid.
