A performing duo which raised £17,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support has been nominated for a Pride in Northamptonshire award.
Retired teachers David Wilson, of Wollaston, and Richard Oberman, of Higham Ferrers, performed as Duo for a decade until December and entertained audiences with a humorous act, including poetry and prose. They gave almost 500 performances of works by writers such as Dickens and H E Bates.
They have been nominated in the Unsung Heroes category by Alan Matthias, of Higham Ferrers.
He said: “Not only have they delighted a large number of people, they’ve raised £17,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. In addition, David has produced an amusing book about local accents, That’ll Learn Yer, and he’s donated the proceeds to the same organisation.”
The award categories include excellence in public service, young achievers, care in the community, friendly neighbour, people who help young people to fulfil their potential, raising the county’s profile, hard work and determination, outstanding examples of bravery, unsung hero and fundraiser of the year.
