A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today on former Northampton hairdresser Ashley Gillard who was found dead in a flat on Monday.

Police are investigating the death of Mr Gillard, aged 31, after they found his body in a flat in Trevithick Court, Milton Keynes, at around 11.40pm on Monday night.

Emergency services had been called to the address after reports of a fire.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being questioned by detectives.

A scene watch remains in place and officers have been conducting house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Det Supt Chris Ward from the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit said: “A murder investigation is now underway and forensic work is ongoing at the scene.

“We are at the early stages of our investigation but initial enquiries suggest that the offender and the victim were known to each other. We are working to establish the exact circumstances of the man’s death and I would ask anyone who has any information to contact police via the 101 number as soon as possible.

“Residents may notice an increased police presence in the area as officers continue making enquiries. If anyone has any concerns or questions, please feel free to speak to officers on patrol.”

Police are appealing for anyone who can provide information that may assist the investigation to contact the Thames Valley Police 24-hour non-emergency number 101 and quote URN 1755 8/6.
