Pop music students show off their talents at Northampton gig

Four bands will play at the Roadmender on March 23

The Big Break will see a quartet of final year popular music student bands from the University of Northampton play the main stage of the venue on Thursday March 23.

Jasmine Shadrack, senior lecturer in popular music, said: “Our students play at various venues across the town and when they eventually get to the final year of their course, they ‘graduate’ to playing the Roadmender’s main stage.

“It’s the perfect venue for the last thing they are ever going to do with us.

“I’m going to be sad to see them go. You see them start in the first year where perhaps they don’t have a lot of confidence, or they can play a bit of an instrument, and by the time they get to the third year you can see how far they’ve come, how committed they are and I’m just very proud of them.”

The Big Break is the final one of three consecutive gigs at the Lady’s Lane venue.

On Tuesday, March 21, the first year bands kick things off in the Roadmender’s smaller room, doors open 7.30pm.

The second years then take over on Wednesday, March 22, doors 7pm.

Doors open at 7.30pm for the final year bands, on Thursday, March 23.

Entry is free for all the gigs.
