A candidate in the Corby by-election who was standing as an Independent has decided to join a new political movement.

Disability campaigner Adam Lotun has agreed to stand as the Democracy 2015 candidate in the by-election, expected to be held on November 15.

Democracy 2015 was founded at the beginning of last month by the founding editor of The Independent newspaper Andreas Whittam Smith. Its aim is to get people who have had a career outside of politics to run in the 2015 General Election to try and get rid of the political class.

Mr Whittam Smith said: “Adam got in touch with us, we spent time together and we quickly found that his views and Democracy 2015’s approach to politics would combine satisfactorily. In a new version of his manifesto he says: “With Democracy 2015 I will be hosting policy debates so that YOU the voter can be involved in politics. We are the start of true democracy and I look forward to hearing and taking on your ideas. Together we will take back our communities, our government and our lives.”
