Police have warned of a number of burglaries in the Wellingborough area in the last few weeks involving properties which have not been properly locked.

Officers say many could have been prevented if the doors were properly secured from the inside. Similarly, self-locking doors need double-locking with a key from the outside when properties are left empty.

PC Alan Rooney said: “Many burglars are opportunists – they will take advantage of an unlocked door or window.

“It may seem obvious advice but it’s important to get into the habit of locking all doors and making sure all windows are secure every time you go out and when you go to bed.

“Items that can be stolen easily, such as keys, wallets and phones, should be kept in a safe place, out of sight and away from windows and doors.”

Anybody who sees any suspicious activity should call police on 101. Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
