There will be a community partnership shop in the New Post Office Square, where a range of partners will provide support and information.

The emergency service cadets will also be supporting the evening and weekend patrols.

Sergeant Jon Hodgson from the Corby Safer Community Team said: “The operation is about high visibility patrols in those areas that can see an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour and reports of crime.

“We are looking to ensure that by providing a visible presence it will prevent or deter any incidents.

“I would ask that people consider their personal safety and that of any personal items perhaps on display in a vehicle or left unattended.

“We are also looking forward to the launch of the Corby Retail Crime Initiative in early December and this will support the operation and enable members to access details of those who are sought in connection with crime, exclusions and other benefits.”

In Wellingborough, officers took over an empty shop in the Swansgate Centre yeterday (Thursday) as part of their Christmas crackdown on crime and anti-social behaviour.

During the festive period, officers will be holding surgeries at the shop and in other parts of the town centre, where they will be on hand to chat to shoppers and residents about any concerns they have about the area.

They will also be sharing useful safety and crime prevention advice as well as giving out bells and alarms to anyone who may be vulnerable to purse or bag theft.

Officers believe their presence in the centre will also act as a deterrent to potential shoplifters and will be working closely with retailers to identify offenders and deal robustly with those who commit crime.

They will also be carrying out extra patrols in the run-up to Christmas and the New Year.

Shoppers are invited to go along and meet officers during their surgeries at the shop in the Swansgate Centre (which is above the escalator near to the Midland Road entrance) on the following dates:

- Tuesday, December 6, 1-2pm

- Wednesday, December 7, 2-3pm
