Police investigate supermarket burglaries

A large amount of money has been taken in burglaries at two supermarkets in Wellingborough overnight.

Police are appealing for witnesses after Marks & Spencer Simply Food in London Road was broken into between 11.30pm and 11.50pm last night (Thursday). The offenders smashed a window and entered the shop where they damaged four self-service checkouts and stole a large amount of money. The offenders left the scene in a black BMW 1 Series.

Meanwhile, a Tesco Express in Queensway was broken into at about 1.40am this morning (Friday). Three men were seen forcing entry to the shop using crowbars and a sledge hammer with a yellow handle. Once inside they damaged a self-service checkout and took a large amount of money.

Police are linking the incidents to another burglary at a Tesco Express in Duston, Northampton, at around 1.10am this morning (Friday). The offenders forced entry to the shop and once inside they damaged the express checkout till and stole a large amount of money. The three offenders were all wearing dark clothing and balaclavas. One of the offenders was carrying a sledge hammer, again with a yellow handle.
