POLICE carried out speeding checks on drivers travelling to Santa Pod Raceway following complaints from people living in the area.
Wellingborough Rural Safer Community Team carried out a speeding operation during the Central Show 2012 at Santa Pod Raceway weekend from Saturday, April 14 to Sunday, April 15.
The operation was organised in response to an increasing number of concerns raised by local residents about visitors speeding on main routes to and from Santa Pod Raceway around Irchester, Wollaston and Bozeat.
Officers and PCSOs were also available to offer advice and discuss any issues while carrying out high visibility patrols around the venue.
Several vehicles were stopped during the weekend. Fixed penalty notices for speeding were issued, while several drivers were given verbal warnings and words of advice where appropriate.
Sergeant Paul Goosey said: “Concerns had been raised by members of the public regarding motorists ignoring road safety during this event weekend.
“The majority of people visiting Santa Pod showed consideration to the local community. Our activity targeted the small percentage of drivers who failed to drive responsibly and proved to be a successful and worthwhile exercise.
“Plans are in place to repeat the operation leading up to future events at the raceway this year.
“The aim of this type of operation is to inform members of the public that we work continually to tackle the issues around locally identified priorities, to help make the area a safe and pleasant environment for the local community.”
