A Kettering councillor has called for CCTV to be installed at a town park after it was targeted yet again by arsonists.

Play equipment at Rockingham Road Pleasure Park has been struck a number of times by arsonists in recent months, and last week vandals set fire two two mini-motorbikes there.

Cllr Michael Brown says he wants to install CCTV at the park to deter further vandalism.

He said: “I appreciate that money is tight and that we have to justify every penny we spend, but we have 1,000 signatures from people in the All Saints ward who say they would like to see cameras there.

“Hopefully, if the cameras are approved, they could be installed during the summer.”

Cllr Brown said he has raised some money towards the cost of the cameras through grant funding.

He added: “It is important we do something to act on this damage.

“The Friends of Rockingham Road Pleasure Park do a lot of good work down there, and it is a shame to see people trying to spoil that.”

Friends chairman David Meagher said the group unanimously backed Cllr Brown’s plans.

He added: “We have got ongoing issues – arson problems have got worse recently.”
