A company has thrown its hat into the ring in support of a charity which raises money to improve breast cancer care for patients in Northamptonshire.

Jhai Ltd has said it will give 50 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of pink hard hats to the Crazy Hats Breast Cancer Appeal.

The hard hats, which carry the logo of the national building control company as well as the charity on them, will be sold at trade shows around the country to raise money and awareness about the work of Crazy Hats.

People will also be able to buy the pink hats at the charity’s annual sponsored walk taking place at Wicksteed Park in Kettering at 10.30am on Sunday, March 20.

Charity founder Glennis Hooper said: “Terry Wallen from Jhai said that if they were going to give the hats away, then they could do one better than that.

“They have been up to see us and we’ve got a lovely picture of them wearing the pink hats.

“They are coming to the walk, where we shall be selling the pink hard hats.”

Money raised by this year’s walk will go towards the Wellingborough-based charity securing new premises so it can offer better support for breast cancer patients and their families in the county.

Their current premises are no longer big enough and they want to offer a wider range of facilities under one roof.

Glennis said they are appealing to any firms who would like to support them on the new build project, and added: “My job is to get local companies on board, not just with the hats but ready in time for the new build project.”

She said she was very proud to have the support of Jhai Ltd, which is based in Dorset but has a site in Moulton, Northampton, and added: “They have contacts that we don’t.

“They came and had a long chat with us, they want to get involved and want to help us.

“We have got 250 pink hats coming here.

“The firm is really keen and very excited.

“They are bringing posters and things to promote it at the walk.

“We are really proud to have them on board.”

She added: “The pink hats project has huge potential and is very exciting.”

Anyone wishing to buy a pink hard hat can get in touch with the charity or buy one at the sponsored walk.

Entry forms are available from the charity’s office on the Finedon Road industrial estate in Wellingborough or via its new website at www.crazyhatsbreastcancerappeal.co.uk.

About 2,700 people took part in last year’s walk, which raised about £55,000.
