The third edition of the British Open Beach Tennis Championships will be held in Kettering next month, it has been announced.

BTUK – Beach Tennis UK – is hosting the event, which takes place on Sunday, May 4 at the National Volleyball Centre at Arena Sports in the Kettering Leisure Village.

Beach tennis is a cross between volleyball and tennis played on levelled sand with a similar size net and court to a volleyball court and net.

The Kettering tournament, which is also an International Tennis Federation grade four event, starts at 9am and is open to everyone. It is the first time the event has been held inland, with previous editions in Brighton and Worthing.

People can enter either the men’s or women’s doubles. The entry fee is £20 per team, and spectators can come along and watch for free.

Kasia Chmielewska, a co-founder of the sport, said: “The beach tennis event at Kettering is a fantastic opportunity to bring this new and exciting sport to this part of the UK.

“It’s a sport anyone can play of any age and ability, and it has great health benefits.”
